Change your lifestyle
Set an example for your commitment to making our city a green place to live.
recycleEasiest way to help? Recycle your plastics. Baltimore City has single stream recycling that accepts some plastics (see the regulations and find your curbside pickup day HERE). Other plastics, like polystyrene (Styrofoam), need to be taken to a special recycling facility in the city.
Go the extra mile: collect recyclables that are not accepted in single stream, and deliver them to your local recycling facility! |
pick it upSee trash in your neighborhood? Local stream? It's not going away without your help.
Pick up plastic waste in your neighborhood, and recycle everything you can. You could even organize a local cleanup, like with Project Clean Stream. |
go reusable
Say no to single-use plastics. Get reusable items, like:
takeout containers
(bring your own tupperware to restaurants)
lunch containers and utensils
(say no to the plastic baggies!)
water bottle
(just drink filtered tap water, but skip the bottled water)
shopping bags
(if you have one or two items, why do you need a plastic bag?)
coffee cup
(ask Starbucks to fill your reusable cup up -- they'll do it!)
Don't feed the oil industry; don't purchase plastic! Buy alternatives made out of bamboo, wood, metal, or glass.

advocate to your community
spread the wordTell your friends, family, neighborhood association, and community members about how they can help by boycotting plastic.
Every person you reach is a step toward being plastic-free. Check out our Resources for flyers and powerpoints to advocate to your community! |
ask for less wasteAsk your local grocery store to stop supplying plastic bags and products or to institute a bag tax (see below for more details). Opt out of reusable plastic cutlery.
And request that Baltimore City put in trash and recycling cans on your neighborhood streets! |
ask manufacturersAsk companies to use biodegradable plastics, expand their non-plastic compostable product lines, and increase product recycling programs.
This could be anything, like a plastic cookie wrapper (making it biodegradable). |
HELP US PASS LEGISLATION
Together, we can pass legislation in Baltimore City and Maryland against plastic.
Currently, we are supporting a statewide expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam) ban in Maryland.
Check out our Events page to see how to get involved! To see what we've done so far, visit our Gallery
